Symbols Poster

30″L × 15″W
This poster pays tribute to the development of a standardized set of transportation symbols through both an essay regarding the historical importance of this system as well as the resulting graphic symbols. The idea behind the symbols was to standardize the iconography used for transportation throughout the country with a major emphasis on familiarity. Because of this, Helvetica, a commonly used and recognized typeface for signage, is used as the typeface on the poster. The use of strictly black and white mimics these principles as well to emulate the principle of simplicity and clarity. The organization along with the graphic choices made are with the intention of paying homage to not only to the symbols but additionally to the purpose they were constructed around.
